MAIN GALLERY EXHIBITION
OPENING: Friday September 20th 6.00PM-8.00PM
Running until the 18th of October.
***’Rotten Things’ runs alongside Zoe Boyd’s exhibition ‘But It Makes Me Happy’
‘Rotten Things’ focuses on the animal body as flayed and grotesque objects, taking inspiration from medical and anatomical illustration. The soft, tactile mediums of textiles and embroidery is at odds with the entrails and muscle. Jemma Cakebread invites a push and pull between intrigue with the construction of the objects and disgust with the subject matter.
Jemma Cakebread is based on the Mornington Peninsula and works in oil paint and textiles. She completed her Visual Arts Degree at the Academy of Design, Melbourne, in 2016, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Monash University in 2017. Recently she has been highly commended for her work shown in the CrossxPollination Art Prize and was also part of the Brackets Art Prize at the Courthouse Gallery earlier this year.
