‘Ascension’ is a deep dive into the transcendental nature of large scale artworks both in its creation for the artist and in its viewing by the audience. Taking inspiration from Rothko’s Chapel located in the Tate Modern and Helen Frankenthaler in her studio photographed by Gordon Parks in 1956 as well as auditory inspiration from John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme released in 1965. ‘Ascension’ is an invitation into contemplative practice through art and Christian mysticism in in a contemporary context beyond the walls of organised religion and obvious Christian symbolism.
