EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ARE OPEN TO TAKE PART IN OUR 2020 CHYA RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Following our successful 2019 pilot program, CHYA will be offering 12 studio residency spots to local creatives throughout 2020.
About the program:
Our residency program provides support for early-career artists and fosters collaboration and development of ideas and practice. Three unique spaces in our building have been transformed into studios that facilitate performance, visual art, writing, recording and research for three artists, over three-month intervals. Each artist will receive a financial stipend to support the creation of new work, and will present a public program and outcomes at CHYA during their residency.
Funded through Creative Victoria, the purpose of this residency is to support experimentation, research and creative risk-taking. While artists will be presenting an outcome at the end of their residency, there is no pressure for this to be a resolved and final work, rather we encourage artists to use it as a development period and a space to test ideas. Each artist will lead a public program during their residency, which may take the form of a workshop, performance, reading, in-conversation or more. In the final weeks of the residency, we will organise an open-studio and invite the public to see the works in situ at Courthouse.
CHYA will provide residency artists with a $300 materials stipend, keys to their studio and alarm codes for 24 hour access throughout the residency period. CHYA will assist artists with research, access to CHYA archives and collections, and resources across materials and technical equipment.
To foster collaboration and creative community, CHYA will schedule artist and staff lunches throughout each residency period, and we support collaboration and cross-disciplinary experimentation among artists.
